The city opened its first permanently affordable building for local manufacturers in a 56,000-sq.-ft. facility on Hooper Street.

San Francisco officials have

been pushing for years to preserve and grow the city’s manufacturing sector. Now they have another place to nurture maker businesses. The 56,000-square-foot, four-story Manufacturing Foundry, located at 150 Hooper St., opens today as the city’s first permanently affordable building for local makers. As local manufacturers have grown in recent years, competition for light industrial space has too, pushing up rents and forcing small employers out of the city altogether.
